1947: Formula One drivers’ champion James Hunt was born. He won the title in 1976 and died in 1993 aged 45.
2002: Premier League new boys West Brom spent £4.75million on Jason Koumas and Lee Hughes.
2005: World-renowned Italian referee Pierluigi Collina retired from officiating.
2008: Manchester City signed Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelsea.
2012: Andrew Strauss stepped down as England Test captain and retired from professional cricket. Alastair Cook took over as England skipper.
