1947: Formula One drivers’ champion James Hunt was born. He won the title in 1976 and died in 1993 aged 45.

2005: World-renowned Italian referee Pierluigi Collina retired from officiatin­g.

2008: Manchester City signed Shaun Wright-Phillips from Chelsea.

2012: Andrew Strauss stepped down as England Test captain and retired from profession­al cricket. Alastair Cook took over as England skipper.
