100 MPs back kids’ meals in school hols

-

MORE than 100 MPs from all the major parties are backing a bill to stop three million children going hungry in school holidays.

The legislation, proposed by Labour’s Frank Field, would ringfence £41million from the sugar tax to pay for free meals poor children outside term time.

Mr Field said: “If the Prime Minister were to pick up this bill and run with it, at nil extra cost to the Government, she would tackle overnight one of the great injustices afflicting children.”

He will present his School Holidays (Meals and Activities) Bill when MPs return next Monday.
