Gran died as air freshener sparked fire
A GRAN died in a blaze when spray from an air freshener caught fire, an inquest heard.
Kathleen Holme, 67, was obsessed with candles and probably died after the flame from one in her home ignited the Glade spray, the hearing was told.
Firefighters said they were shocked by tests where the sprays were placed near a naked flame.
Cumbria Fire Service said: “They produced significant flames capable of igniting flammable material nearby.”
The coroner is to alert makers of the battery-run sprays, that release freshener at regular intervals, after the death in Kendal.
US firm SC Johnson, owner of Glade, said it was used in millions of homes without incident.
