Alan Titchmarsh has spent decades transforming people’s gardens, and very good at it he is too. But recognising that sometimes that’s not enough, he’s now working with some very deserving families to transform their houses as well.

However, Alan won’t be turning all Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and tackling the interior himself. He won’t be up a ladder, plastering a ceiling or knocking down a partition wall. In fact, at one point he buggers off site and leaves everyone to it, not returning for a whole week. Ooh, you’d never catch Nick Knowles doing that…

Undoubtedly it’s a worthy cause, a lovely family, and a muchneeded and very stylish revamp of their home and garden, with solutions to their problems. But it’s just no DIY SOS.

We miss Nick and the gang, all those burly builders and volunteer tradespeople having a big sob at the end – the tension, the pace and the feeling of a team all working together. This feels much more like they had a pretty big budget, no time limit and just left the professionals to it. BATTLING Taylor on life support
