AUSTRALIA joined England by warming up for the Ashes with a defeat – losing a Test against Bangladesh for the first time.

Hours after being cheered by the West Indies’ shock five-wicket win at Headingley, the Baggy Greens lost by 20 runs in Mirpur.

Set 265 to win on a turning pitch, opener David Warner scored 112 but it was not enough, spinner Shakib Al Hasan recording match figures of 10-153 for the hosts.

Aussies skipper Steve Smith, expected to have a four-pronged pace attack to greet England at the Gabba in November, did not rule out going into next week’s decisive second Test with only one quick bowler – Pat Cummins – and three spinners in Nathan Lyon, Ashton Agar and Steve O’Keefe.
