Froome on course to land double

-

CHRIS FROOME is closing in on a Grand Tour double after widening his Vuelta a Espana advantage.

The Brit finished second on stage 11 behind Miguel Angel Lopez, but increased his 36-second lead in the GC to 1min 19sec.

The four-time Tour de France champ is on course to become only the third man in history – and the first since 1978 – to win both races in the same season.

Team Sky ace Froome said: “I’m very happy with the outcome. I could not have asked for much more than the way it turned out.”
