Gomez to lead U-21s
LIVERPOOL’S Joe Gomez has capped a superb week by being made England Under-21 skipper.
The defender will lead Aidy Boothroyd’s side in the qualification campaign for the 2019 Euros starting in Holland tomorrow.
Gomez, 20, was the surprise star man in the 4-0 rout of Arsenal. He pulled out of June’s Euros finals to report back early to Anfield to get himself in first-team contention.
Boothroyd said: “Joe’s a senior player. He’s won at Under-17 level and he’s a little bit more worldly-wise than the other boys.”
