Mel B fears accusation of being a homewrecker over ‘cop affair’
MEL B fears being branded a homewrecker over an alleged affair with a married policeman – after she accused her former nanny of doing the same to her.
The ex-Spice Girl is said to have grown close to trained crisis negotiator Ryan Lawrence, who has been staying over at the singer’s Beverly Hills home up to five nights a week.
His furious wife Morgan, 29, fled the marital home over the alleged fling after branding 42-year-old Mel “Old Spice”. She also told her on Instagram: “You will never replace me.”
Now her one-year-old marriage to Ryan is said to be on the rocks. The crisis comes after the British singer was accused of falsely painting former nanny Lorraine Gilles, 26, as a “homewrecker, prostitute and extortionist”.
She claims the German beauty had an affair with her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte, who she is locked in a divorce battle with, while employed by them.
But now Mel fears being accused of wrecking a marriage over her alleged fling with Ryan.
Reports in the US earlier this month revealed she was smitten with an unnamed officer whose life was described as “complicated”.
When Morgan heard the allegation, she left their home in Mission Viejo, California, on Sunday after a string of rows and went to her mum and dad’s house. It is understood she has now returned as Ryan fights to save their marriage. Mel’s team insist the officer has been helping with security in recent weeks however there are claims that he grew close to her in April.
After striking up a friendship, sources claim the relationship soon became physical with the two embarking on a “full-blown affair”.
One friend said: “She already seems to be in love with her new guy.” According to reports in the US, friends of Mel say they are wary of Ryan’s marital status but she has been assuring them “he was unhappily married for a while”.
It is alleged he planned to separate from his wife prior to meeting the singer.
Ryan is said to “worship the ground Mel walks on.”
Torrie Hart, former wife of American actor Kevin Hart, described the officer, who she had seen with Mel at yoga, as the singer’s “boyfriend”.
Morgan believed her husband was staying in police digs each night but in fact he was sleeping at Mel’s rented home off Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills. Friends claim he would drive to her house in his Honda Accord after his shift finished at 6pm, arriving about 6.30pm, before leaving her home around 5.45am the next day to start work.
Ryan is known on the set of America’s Got Talent, having been several times, where Mel is a judge alongside Heidi Klum, 44, and Howie Mandel, 61.
It is claimed he spent the July 4 Independence Day celebrations with the mum-of-three as well as staying with her in a number of Los Angeles hotels.
Ryan is also said to have attended the birthday party of one of Heidi’s children with Mel about two months ago.
When at Mel’s house, Ryan often drives her white Range Rover to take her children to various events.
He has also driven her to court for at least one of her divorce hearings.
He is said to have forged a close bond
with Mel’s daughters, Madison Belafonte, six today, with Stephen, Phoenix Chi Gulzar, 18, with first husband Jimmy Gulzar and Angel, 10, whose dad is Beverly Hills Cop movie star Eddie Murphy. It is understood Stephen is aware Mel is close to the policeman. Ryan refused to comment about the alleged affair. Morgan’s brother said she was too upset to talk. Mel’s team yesterday refused to comment but have in recent weeks denied she was in a relationship. While filming America’s Got Talent two weeks ago, Mel laughed off claims she had begun dating so soon after the collapse of her 10-year marriage to Stephen. The star insisted she’s still a free agent. She told an act called Air Force Academy after watching their performance: “Yes ... I am so happy to be single right now.”
At the weekend Mel was spotted with a mystery man after the MTV VMA awards with one news group wrongly claiming it was her boyfriend.
He was in fact Gary Madatyan, Ryan’s hairdresser. He introduced the officer to Mel.
Details of Mel’s alleged affair comes as she faces a million dollar legal nightmare after a judge ruled Lorraine can sue her for defamation over the alleged homewrecker jibe. The jury trial, planned for next July, leaves her facing the prospect of more devastating secrets being aired in public. She has already racked up a £195,000 legal bill during her divorce from film producer Stephen. If she loses the libel case, Mel faces being hit with a £1.5million payout in damages.
