NUMBER CRUNCH

Fire services face a “ticking time bomb” after numbers of staff leaving to take other jobs almost doubled since the Tories took power. A total of 1,044 people resigned from the fire and rescue services “to take other employment” in 2015/16 – up from just 537 in 2010/11. The number of fire service personnel leaving for outside work has now risen for three years in a row.
