A BOUNTY of £10,000 has been put up to help catch a pockmarked prowler thought to have killed hundreds of cats.

Previously dubbed the “Croydon cat killer” after a series of pets had their heads and tails cut off in South London, the attacker became the “UK cat killer” as his spree went nationwide.

Now two animal charities have put up the reward to help find the “clearly disturbed” man who has slaughtered at least 300 cats.

Owners have been warned to keep their pets in at night to keep them safe after cases emerged from Kent to Manchester. The man has been described as white, with dark brown hair and a pockmarked face, aged in his 40s.

He makes “kissing” noises while luring the cats with food or toys.

The reward is offered by Outpaced and PETA UK as a two-year police probe has failed to catch the killer. Tony Jenkins of South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty said: “Fingers crossed he will be caught soon.”

A girl who put a cat in a wheelie bin will face prosecution says Jean Atkinson, 68, of Hull, who caught her. She said: “I hope it’s taught her a lesson.”
