The BBC’s adaptation of JK Rowling’s novel Strike: The Cuckoo’s Calling over the Bank Holiday was a real treat. The plot focused on Strike, played by Tom Burke (left), an ex-soldier turned private investigator who looks into the apparent suicide of a model. He’s aided by his secretary, Robin, played by Holliday Grainger. I hope we see more of these two characters as the chemistry between them hinted to future cases and a possible romance. At last Channel 4 is showing a proper version of The Crystal Maze in which members of the public go through a series of tasks to win crystals. Host Richard Ayoade brings his deadpan humour but happily the show has the same old weirdness about it which made it so popular in the 90s. DW Shattock, Bristol
