G4S officers suspended over ‘abuse’
SECURITY firm G4S faced calls that it be stripped of its contract after it suspended nine staff over claims of abuse at an immigration centre.
BBC’s Panorama said it had filmed officers “mocking, abusing and even assaulting detainees” at Brook House Immigration Removal Centre near Gatwick Airport.
Jerry Petherick, head of G4S’s UK prisons, said: “There is no place for [this] type of conduct.”
Labour MP Thangam Debbonaire, chair of the all-party parliamentary group on refugees, told the BBC: “This contract should be, in my view, suspended and reviewed.”
The Home Office said it expected a thorough investigation by G4S.
