Funny in the head
We’re approaching the 50th anniversary of Desmond Morris’s book The Naked Ape, which controversially claimed human behaviour evolved to meet the challenges of prehistoric life as a hunter.
It’s often depicted by the famous graphic which shows man emerging, in stages, from a crouched ape to an upright homo sapiens.
I’d like to think if Desmond was penning a sequel today, he’d add another stage to man’s evolution. One where his head is no longer upright but staring downwards at his hand as he carries a mobile phone and walks into the path of oncoming traffic.
