‘DE BOER CAN BEAT THE SAK’

- BY ADRIAN KAJUMBA

UNDER-FIRE Frank de Boer has received a welcome show of support from Crystal Palace new boy Mamadou Sakho.

The France defender completed a £26million return to Selhurst Park from Liverpool as the Eagles landed their top target on deadline day.

After helping Palace stay up last term on loan from the Reds, Sakho will be rejoining a club who have had a nightmare start to this campaign under De Boer (below).

The Eagles have lost all three of their league games without scoring as they have struggled to get to grips with their new Dutch manager’s methods and three-man defence.

But centreback Sakho, 27, said: “We have a good boss with a lot of experience. He has a new football mentality and the squad just need to adapt to his style.

“I am confident. We have a great squad and just need to work hard. I think everything will be better soon.

“With all of our power together, we will have a great season.”

However, such is the concern over Palace’s plight it is not certain that Sakho will get to play for De Boer, who is set for more crunch talks with Eagles chiefs now the transfer window is closed.

De Boer fears the discussions could end with him losing his job.

And, ominously, chairman Steve Parish talking about Palace’s start said: “It’s not been great, it’s a results-based business, so if you don’t get wins... Frank knows that.

“So we’ll be working hard, having some serious conversations and making sure we turn it around.”
