RONALDO MIGHT BE MIAMI NICE

- BY JOHN CROSS

DAVID BECKHAM is ready to target a remarkable move for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The England legend will officially announce this month that he is launching a MLS team in Miami.

Former LA Galaxy star Beckham believes he can attract huge names and Ronaldo would fit the bill.

The Real Madrid superstar, 32, could be open to one last move around the time Miami is fully ready to go within three years.

It would be a huge boost for MLS and two of the biggest names in world football (together, below) linking up would be seen as a major development for the sport in the United States.

MLS commissioner Don Garber says there has been a move away from signing ageing stars, but they would make an exception for the right name.

Garber told Mirror Sport: “I hope we don’t move too far away from recognising that having global icons play in our league can deliver all sorts of value and technology.

“Not just in terms of ticket sales and commercial benefit, but it inspires young people here.

“They might be influenced by playing the EA Sports games or watching the Premier League or Bundesliga and yet might not have a local MLS team.

“If you can bring in an icon like David Beckham in his day or what David Villa is doing today, if you can have those players who are followed on a truly global basis.

“I’ll never mention names because I get infuriated coaches mentioning players in our league. But there are clearly players around the world who resonate.”
