May ‘ignored lot of risk’ in snap election
THERESA May was warned a snap election carried “a lot of risk” but went ahead anyway, it emerged yesterday.
A leaked memo from Tory campaign supremo Sir Lynton Crosby warned she could end up with a narrow majority.
It said: “Voters are actively seeking to avoid uncertainty, yet by calling an election the Conservatives are the ones who are creating uncertainty.”
When Mrs May revealed her decision to go to the polls, Sir Lynton replied: “I’m not sure that’s a good idea, mate,” the Mail on Sunday reported.
A YouGov poll found 48% of voters believe she should quit before 2022, with nearly a quarter saying she should go now.
