Oblique muscles

-

The obliques are a pair of broad, thin muscles which lie on either side of the abdomen.

They’re best known for the rotation of the trunk when you bend sideways.

The contraction of both obliques together results in the compression of the abdomen (as in sucking in the gut) or the flexion of the trunk (as in performing a crunch or sit-up).
