OUR GRAVE CONCERNS

# The recent report on the increased costs highlights a much bigger issue than funeral poverty (Mirror, Aug 30).

Some unscrupulous funeral directors manipulate the emotions of those left behind, suggesting more expensive services than they can afford.

Also, the Government has messed around with the DWP funeral payment system, meaning less help for those on the lowest incomes.

Some £160million is owed to funeral directors – do readers realise that they bump up the costs to recoup that debt? It’s about time the Government sorted the sorry mess out.

# While I freely admit to having been a naive Blairite, I finally saw the light as to just how two-faced he really was.

So when I saw your news item saying that he was spotted in Brussels visiting EU President Jean-Claude Juncker (September 1), it left me wondering what nefarious anti-Brexit mischief he was up to.

# Everyone knows HS2 is a waste of time and money and will only be used by rich people.

Instead of pursuing this white elephant, why not build a completely new rail link from one end of the country to the other to be used exclusively for freight?
