We’ll curb low-skill migrants
A BLOCK on unskilled European Union labourers working in Britain will kick in immediately after Brexit, a leaked Home Office document has revealed.
Restrictions will be placed on all but highly skilled workers from the bloc, the document shows.
Labour MP Alison McGovern of the Open Britain campaign warned it could put the economy and public services at risk. She said: “There are 60,000 in our NHS alone and many others in all sectors, including in so-called ‘low skilled’ jobs.”
The leaked information emerged as ex-Chancellor George Osborne admitted he was to blame for the failure of his Project Fear bid to stop Brexit. Speaking for the first time about his role in losing the vote, he confessed it was “not a very good campaign, adding: “I’m not blaming anyone but myself.”
Pushing for Remain, he claimed he would impose an emergency budget as the economy went hurtling into recession if the country voted Leave. Yesterday he said: “Obviously there are things we should have done better.” But he denied his grim warnings had been a “load of rubbish”.
He said: “If you’ve been in Europe you might have seen our country is quite a lot poorer than it was, because of the devaluation.”
Last night Brexit Secretary David Davis admitted haggling over Britain’s Brexit bill could drag on for a year.
