Wheelchair peer’s anger as buggy gets priority on bus
A PEER who uses a wheelchair has told of her fury at a bus driver who refused to let her board.
Baroness Sal Brinton said: “The bus driver comes to see me, says ‘There’s a buggy in the space, you can’t come on the bus, it’s the law’.”
She said he left her in the rain and added: “I was furious. It was incredibly frustrating.”
The Lib Dem president, 62, who has rheumatoid arthritis, is now demanding a change in the law. The Supreme Court found in favour of a wheelchair user refused entry on a bus when a mum would not move a buggy, but did not make it a requirement for firms to force passengers to move. Transport for London has apologised over the incident in Euston, Central London, on Monday. Wheelchair priority was “essential”, it said, adding: “Something has gone wrong here.”
