UNFAIR SLUR ON ROYALTY

For Kevin Maguire to refer to William and Kate as “a gormless couple”, call their child-to-be “a sprog” and also write “the dreary Windsors” is rude and inaccurate (Mirror, September 5).

I’m no ardent royalist but, sadly, how many decent democracies are there in the world? And, of course, we are a democracy with the Royal Family in a nominal historical role.

I’d like to see some of the complainers perform a proper analysis of the costs and benefits of the Royal Family – I’d be very surprised if they were not in credit. David Edwards, Flixton, Manchester
