Brit plan for Irish border is slammed

- BY DAN BLOOM

THE EU’s top negotiator has slapped down David Davis’ approach to the Northern Irish border after Brexit.

Britain wants Ireland to control the “final” border between the EU and the UK, keeping free travel to the north from the Republic.

But negotiator Michel Barnier slammed this approach, claiming Britain “wants the EU to suspend application of its laws” at the border and “wants to use Ireland as a kind of test case”.

Then he warned: “This will not happen. This would not be fair for Ireland and would not be fair for the EU.”

Sinn Finn leader Gerry Adams also complained that Britain’s Brexit plans are “unworkable”.
