Sick Kate is denied every mum’s milestone moment

POOR Kate. She must be seriously ill to miss out on George’s first day at school. She has been denied one of the most poignant days of motherhood.

No longer will you be the only influence in their lives. No longer will you be able to keep all the scary bits of life hidden from them.

It’s a wonderful moment as they step through those school gates and into the big wide world.

Wonderful and heartbreaking in equal measure. That first morning you drop off your baby. At the end of the day you collect a little person.

When I dropped my eldest son off for his first day nine years ago, I felt elation that we’d made it that far.
