Davy’s on the moan again...
DAVY RUSSELL has been moaning about journalists’ treatment of him and how it has affected his family.
It is a shame if those close to him have felt discomfort, but if, immediately after punching a horse, the Irish jockey had shown a smidgeon of contrition, the saga might not have dragged on for so long.
Instead, the journalists he now rails against were patronised and told they did not know what they were talking about because they had never ridden a racehorse.
Most of them probably have not thrown a punch either, but they know what one looks like.
If Russell has, somehow, been excessively victimised, the fault lies with his and horse racing’s insularity … not with those looking on from the outside who happened to take offence at the sight of a man bashing his fist into a horse’s head.
SINCE the 2013/14 season, no Premier League player has created more chances (402), completed more successful crosses (229), and had more assists (42), than Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil.
For his national team, the fivetime German Player of the Year and World Cup winner has scored 22 times in 86 games, and has 36 assists.
Yet, over here, we won’t be happy until we turn him into Mark Noble.
