We’re forking out more for weddings than ever before, according to a survey of 4,000 brides by hitched.co. uk. The average cost is now £27,161 – up 9.6% from last year.

The single biggest cost is venue hire, at an average of £4,354, while the average cost of an engagement ring is £2,084.

But more couples are funding their big day themselves (32%), while just over half receive some financial help from family.
