NIGEL Farage received a standing ovation at a far-right rally in Berlin yesterday where he was a guest of the granddaughter of Hitler’s finance minister.

The ex-UKIP leader spoke at the event for an anti-immigration party, which hailed him as an inspiration for anti-EU politicians.

He was invited by MEP Beatrix von Storch, deputy chief of the Alternative for Germany party. Her grandad Lutz von Krosigk was in the Nazi cabinet.

Introducing her fellow MEP, she said: “Nigel Farage showed the impossible is possible if you believe in it and fight this fight. He did that for more than two decades… [he is] a role model for us.”

The two are in the same European Parliament group after she was kicked out of a more mainstream one last year when she called for guards to use firearms to deter illegal immigrants, remarks she later called a “mistake”. Mr Farage, 53, described the 46-year-old as a “decent” person, adding: “We have strong, shared, similar values.”

The AfD is set to enter Germany’s national parliament for the first time in elections this month. Mr Farage said German leader Angela Merkel and challenger Martin Schulz had failed to discuss Brexit in campaigns because it was a “huge embarrassment” for them.
