May slammed for storm gag at the cricket

-

THERESA May has been slammed for joking about the storm in the Caribbean as worst-hit British territory Anguilla reels from the hurricane disaster.

The Prime Minister made the quip while watching cricket in the rain at Lord’s for the Third Test.

Moaning about the weather, she told BBC Test Match Special host Jonathan Agnew: “At least we’re not in the Caribbean.”

It came hours after the Government’s preparations for Anguilla ahead of the worst Atlantic storm on record were called “unbelievably pathetic”. Lib Dem MP Alistair Carmichael said: “While she watches cricket, the death toll rises.”

Mrs May later chaired an emergency COBRA meeting on Britain’s response to Hurricane Irma.
