Finn’s wounds press case for a law change
ANIMAL Hero of the Year Finn illustrates how laws around attacks on police dogs need urgent reform.
The seven-year-old had four hours of surgery after he was stabbed with a 12in blade while making a collar.
His handler, PC David Wardell, was also wounded by the 16-year-old, who got eight months for ABH on the officer but nothing for Finn.
At the moment, attackers of police dogs and horses are prosecuted for criminal damage. Campaigners want them given the same status as officers and 130,000 back the call.
