Wenger says Arsenal to do better than last season

- BY JOHN CROSS

ARSENE WENGER insists Arsenal are strong enough to win the Premier League.

TONY PULIS admits Jonny Evans wouldn’t look out of place at Manchester City or Arsenal but now wants to tie him to West Brom.

Albion’s £30million-rated Northern Ireland centreback was a summer target for both title-chasing City and the Gunners.

Big-spending City made several bids for the former Manchester United trainee.

But Pep Guardiola was unable to complete a deadline-day swoop for the 29-year-old as City failed to offload Eliaquim Mangala.

Now Albion skipper Evans has been challenged by Pulis to earn a recall for his first Premier League appearance of the season.

Evans has missed Albion’s unbeaten start to the Premier League with a hamstring injury. But he made his first start in the international break, playing for Northern Ireland in a 3-0 win in San Marino.

Ahead of today’s trip to Brighton, Pulis said: “The bottom line with Jonny is Arsenal were interested in him and Man City were interested in him They just never met the price this football club wanted.

“If they had, it might have been a different situation. So I am pleased Jonny stayed and he has to knuckle down now and get back in the team and start showing everybody what a good player he is again.

“He is a very down-toearth
