RAMPANT RAMS Hull hammered as Vydra and Johnson hit doubles

-

DERBY were in a hurry as they stormed to victory against hapless Hull.

Matej Vydra grabbed a brace and Curtis Davies netted against his old club, while Bradley Johnson also scored, as the Rams ran riot in the first half to climb into the top six.

Johnson added a fifth as Gary Rowett’s side strolled to their fourth win in five. The visitors were poleaxed by three goals in the final 12 minutes of the opening period.

The Rams took the lead after 15 minutes with a stunning free-kick from Vydra, who earned it after being tripped just outside the box by Ola Aina.

The 25-year-old striker’s fierce shot curled over the defensive wall and into the far corner, leaving Allan McGregor grasping at thin air.

Hull’s Sebastian Larsson then blazed over from the spot after Tom Lawrence dragged down Aina in the box.

Derby punished City’s wastefulness in the 34th minute. Vydra drove home first time after Johnson pierced the Tigers’ rearguard and David Nugent laid the ball into the Czech’s path to finish from 15 yards.

Within five minutes it was 3-0 and it rubbed salt into the wounds as it came from Davies, who left Hull this summer. On his 400th league appearance, the defender glanced home Lawrence’s corner after losing his marker Michael Hector, and refused to celebrate. The Rams didn’t have long to wait before they netted again, as Johnson bundled home seconds before half-time when Nugent’s cross flicked off Stephen Kingsley.

And it was Johnson who made it five, picking his spot from the edge of the box on 58 minutes after some woeful defending.
