TERRIERS ALWAYS UNDERDOGS

- BY MIKE WHALLEY

DAVID WAGNER believes Huddersfield are still a small club despite their rise to the Premier League.

Town’s head coach (right) was named Premier League manager of the month for August, with his team collecting seven points from three matches following their promotion via the Championship play-offs.

Tonight they visit a West Ham side in crisis after starting the campaign with three defeats.

But whatever happens this evening, and for the rest of the season, Wagner is adamant that his team remain top-flight underdogs.

He said: “Are we still little Huddersfield? For sure, yeah. We are still humble enough to know they are big West Ham and we are small Huddersfield Town.

“OK, yes, we are a Premier League club, like West Ham are. But West Ham are much more established. West Ham work with totally different numbers to what we do.

“They have a 60,000-capacity stadium, we have a 25,000-capacity stadium.

“I think the sizes of these two clubs are still not comparable, even if they are both in the Premier League.

“Everybody who knows me knows that this does not mean we are not ambitious. We are ambitious.”
