Single parent £3k cap blow

SOME 17,000 single parents with kids under two will lose £3,000 as the Government challenges a benefits cap ruling.

The High Court said they should be exempt as they do not get free childcare and would struggle to work. But the DWP is appealing and the case will not be heard until June.

Labour MP Frank Field said they “should never have been covered by the cap”. The DWP said: “The cap provides a clear incentive to move into a job.”
