Cleaning a toaster

If bread is stuck in the toaster, sticking a knife into the machine to retrieve it could lead to electric shock.

The thin conductive wires used to generate heat are often coated in mica, a mineral with high heat resistance to insulate wires from the toaster’s body. It is very brittle so can easily be damaged or dislodged.
