Sadio’s red a sad day for game

I AGREE with what seems like the majority of ex-pros when it comes to Sadio Mane’s sending off — his clash with Ederson (left) was not deserving of a red card.

That’s not to say referee Jon Moss wasn’t right to dismiss him because, by the letter of the law, he was. Unfortunately, the law is an ass because both the goalkeeper and the centreforward had the right to go for that ball. The rules need changing so that Mane, at worst, should have been shown a yellow, as Matt Ritchie was a day later.

As a footnote, I’m glad Ederson wasn’t seriously injured but I actually think he didn’t do himself any favours by keeping his hands low and leading with the most vulnerable part of his body.

Next time he’ll be better off using a shoulder to protect himself, or leading with his chest, just making himself big.
