STOKE boss Mark Hughes has told Gareth Southgate that Jack Butland should be England No.1.

Joe Hart kept the job against Malta and Slovakia despite his tough start to the season with West Ham.

And Hughes fears that spells disappointment for Butland (above) at the World Cup in Russia.

Sparky said: “I was interested in what Gareth said in terms of justifying the decision, saying Joe is the best option.

“It sounded like he’d already made the decision for Russia.

“But I thought Jack clearly presented a really strong case to be picked for those recent World Cup qualifiers.

“If you’re in the business of winning games, you have to go with the guy in form.”
