Sampson now faces new probe
UNDER-FIRE England women’s boss Mark Sampson last night faced embarrassing questions over his treatment of a second player.
Sampson, who has been accused of racism and bullying by striker Eni Aluko, put his hands on the shoulders of defender Lucy Bronze during a training session at St George’s Park yesterday.
Pictures then appear to show Bronze shrugging him off and looking unhappy and uncomfortable at his attention.
It comes as another blow for Sampson, who has been cleared by an internal FA review and an independent investigation but who faces a parliamentary inquiry into Aluko’s allegations.
Sampson is facing renewed questions over his conduct but he insists there is no rift with Lyon defender Bronze, who has won 48 caps.
Sampson said: “No, absolutely not. With the players we’re working with we have a fantastic working relationship and the environment within the team is very positive.
“I can’t even recall it (the incident). Bronzy has done exceptionally well. She is a great character and a really good player.”
Sampson last week issued a statement over the Aluko claims, saying his “conscience is clear,” but admitted it had been difficult coping with the scandal. He added: “It’s been difficult for everyone, not just myself but for everyone involved.”
