Iraq soldier: I admit role in tragic death

A SOLDIER has admitted causing the death of a comrade in Iraq.

Lance Corporal Scott Hetheringt­on died in January while helping to train local forces.

An inquest later heard there had been a “negligent discharge of a weapon by another soldier.”

L Cpl Colin Theaker denies manslaught­er and will appear at a court martial in the New Year.

Appearing via videolink at a hearing in London, he admitted negligentl­y performing a duty causing the death of Scott.

Scott, 22, of Middleton, Gtr Manchester, was with the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment at Camp Taji.

Lieut Col Rob Singleton said of him: “The battalion has lost a huge talent.”
