COMEDY

-

BBC1, 10.35pm Anything which stars Alison Steadman as someone’s mum is worth tuning in to in our book.

We can’t get enough of her highpitched gushing mum-isms – it reminds us of when she played Pam in Gavin & Stacey.

Here she’s Cath, mum to 20-something Rob (“all teeth and hair” comedian Rob Beckett) in his selfpenned comedy pilot.

Rob has jacked in his job in London to move back in with his parents in their family home in the city. But he doesn’t realise they’ve sold up and moved to a static caravan park in Margate.

Rob is forced to live on a sofa bed in the caravan, 80 miles from London, but Cath tells him to “chillax” and he is quickly drawn into life at the park.

The result is a charming sitcom with affectionately observed characters.

Phil Davis plays Rob’s dad Gal (watch out for his Mr Whippy move, you’ll know it when you see it).

And there’s a marvellous turn from Craig Parkinson, better known as Line of Duty villain Dot, as a terrible talent show compere.
