BERNARDO BELIEVES CITY HAVE GOLDEN GENERATION

- BY DAVID ANDERSON

BERNARDO SILVA claims Manchester City are hungry for Champions League glory.

Pep Guardiola (far right) took an axe to his squad this summer in the wake of his unsuccessful first campaign, culling most of his thirtysomethings to make way for younger players like Silva.

Out went Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Fernando, and in came Silva, Ederson, Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo.

None of them has won the Champions League or Premier League and Silva (right) says that makes them crave success. “That’s good because young players are hungry for titles,” he said. “We have never won the Champions League and most of this squad have never won the Premier League. “We want to win big things and together we hope we can get them.” Silva impressed on his second start for City in their 4-0 rout of Feyenoord and brought some zip to the Blues’ play. The Portugal midfielder is delighted to be reunited with his former Monaco pal Mendy at the Etihad and says the France defender has helped him settle in.

“He’s a great guy, on and off the pitch,” said the £43million signing. “He’s a big friend of mine, so for me it’s a pleasure to have him here.”
