‘May poised to offer billions to end Brexit talks deadlock’
THERESA May will offer to pump billions of pounds into the EU until 2021, it was claimed yesterday.
Next week the PM is expected to suggest Britain makes budget payments for three years after Brexit.
It is hoped this will break a deadlock in talks with the EU, but risks infuriating Tory Brexiteers.
Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable said she had been put “in a very awkward position” by her party. He told BuzzFeed: “It’s like being handcuffed to a radiator at the mercy of others.” Sir Vince took over from Tim Farron after a row over whether gay sex is sinful. Mr Farron said “remaining faithful to Christ” was incompatible with being party boss. He told the Mirror: “I find it odd conscience is fair game. A liberal defends others’ rights. It is not somebody who believes in compete assimilation.”
