Elsworth eyes Melbourne as Desert strikes
DESERT SKYLINE finally got the reward for his consistency with victory in the Group 2 Doncaster Cup yesterday.
The David Elsworth-trained three-year-old had made the frame in all bar one of his six outings of 2017 — without getting his head in front.
But the 2-1 favourite (right), ridden by Silvestre De Sousa for the first time, came with a strong run inside the final furlong to beat Thomas Hobson by a length and a half.
“He’s a tough little fellow and he looks the type that might make into a [Melbourne] Cup horse one day,” said Elsworth.
