Road safety cham­pion’s drive ban

A TRUCKER who called for stiffer sen­tences for dan­ger­ous mo­torists ad­mit­ted driv­ing his car at up to 75mph in a 30mph zone while over the drink-drive limit.

James Mead­owcroft, 28, led po­lice on a chase, tak­ing four blind junc­tions “at speed” be­fore crash­ing into a traf­fic light.

He was ar­rested at the scene and found to be 1.5 times the le­gal limit.

Mead­owcroft, of Rad­cliffe, Manch­ester, ad­mit­ted dan­ger­ous driv­ing and drink driv­ing and got six months’ jail sus­pended for 15 months, and a one-year ban.

In 2015, af­ter Ad­dil Ha­roon, 19, was jailed for six years for caus­ing death by dan­ger­ous driv­ing, Mead­owcroft joined a cam­paign call­ing for a tougher sen­tence.

On Face­book, he wrote: “Make an ex­am­ple of him and stop mak­ing the CPS and jus­tice sys­tem the laugh­ing stock.”
