May: I might not stay PM after Brexit

- BY ANDREW GREGORY Political Editor

THERESA May has hinted she could quit in 2019.

In a an interview with US network ABC News, she vowed to see Brexit through as PM – however she stopped short of committing to fight the next general election.

Mrs May said: “I’m going to pass Brexit. I’m going to make sure that Brexit happens.” But asked whether she would still be PM after Britain leaves the EU in 2019, she refused to rule out quitting.

She also avoided a question about whether she regretted her original Remain stance on Brexit.

The PM responded: “On balance, I thought it was right to remain in, but the sky wouldn’t fall in if we left the European Union.”
