COMEDY

-

BBC2, 10pm Victorian quackery is a funny premise for a comedy, but it’s the cast which really makes this series sparkle. The ensemble of Rory Kinnear, Tom Basden, Lydia Leonard, Mathew Baynton and Rupert Everett is spot-on casting. As this final episode airs, we’re hoping for a second run.

But first there’s more bad medical advice to get on with. Such as hanging a mole around a baby’s neck to cure teething problems.

Meanwhile, Robert (Kinnear) probably shouldn’t have bothered with such neat stitches sewing up his accountant – John (Basden) has already killed him with the wrong dose of anaesthetic.

But Robert has bigger fish to fry. His rival, the suave French surgeon Patrice DuPont, the Baron of the Blade, is in town. So who will Hendrick (Everett) choose to operate on his hernia?

Meanwhile, William and Caroline’s affair gathers pace – it might even move on from wrist kissing. OPERATION Hendrick has a hernia
