NO GOALS, NO POINTS.. NO REGRETS

Palace chief Parish claims he would have been ‘negligent’ not to have sacked De Boer: ‘I am not going to apologise’

CRYSTAL PALACE chairman Steve Parish has refused to apologise for the club’s nightmare start to the season and the Frank de Boer debacle.

Boss De Boer was fired after 77 days following four defeats and no goals in the opening four league games, and replaced by Roy Hodgson last week.

Parish claims he would have been “negligent” not to act after blundering in appointing the Dutchman.

“As a club we got it wrong and as a chairman I got it wrong with Frank,” said Parish.

“But I’m never going to apologise for taking a

risk and trying to improve this club. If I make mistakes in doing it, I’ll hold my hands up. But I’m not going to apologise.

“I can understand people thinking four games wasn’t enough but results weren’t good. I didn’t think it was going to work.

“It could have gone on longer but if that produced the outcome I thought it was going to, it would have made me negligent.”

With the Eagles hosting Huddersfield in the Carabao Cup tonight, Parish hit back at Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer for criticising De Boer’s sacking.

He said: “I’m not going to write off the last seven years as a failure because Alan Shearer doesn’t think I took enough time.

“Perhaps if certain people decided to get involved in creating things or put themselves on the line, they would have the same kind of experiences. I don’t think I’d ever take that option of sitting there criticising other people who are taking risks and trying to do their best.

“It wasn’t because we didn’t think about it. It was perhaps because we thought about it too much.”
