Wheelchair mugger is jailed

A MUGGER who battered a wheelchairbound man and took his disability benefits has been jailed for six years.

Tahir Mahmood, 31, targeted Gareth Elson in Smethwick, West Mids, despite being banned from the area over a series of previous offences. Mr Elson said in a statement to police: “I believe he targeted me because I was in a wheelchair.

“I was an easy target because I couldn’t stand up and fight back.”

Mahmood of Winson Green, Birmingham admitted robbery and was jailed at Wolverhampton crown court.
