City’s more-than-double deal to keep Jesus at Etihad

- BY DAVID McDONNELL

GABRIEL JESUS is getting a bumper new deal at Manchester City – to ensure Europe’s big guns have no chance of snatching him.

Jesus has proved a success at the Etihad since making his debut nine months ago, with 12 goals in 17 games. And now the Brazilian striker, 20, is set to more than double his current £70,000-aweek wages in a £150,000-a-week deal.

He is already under contract with City until 2021, but the new one is likely to see that extended by a year to further protect his market value. City, who play West Brom at The Hawthorns tonight in the Carabao Cup, are also lining up new deals for midfield duo David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne. Baggies boss Tony Pulis says Jonny Evans, 29, (left) is well worth the £30million that City refused to pay for him. He kept the centre-back, despite a number of bids.

A relieved Pulis said: “We’re pleased his value is that amount – and I’m even more pleased we never took it.

“Jonny is a top player and has done very well here.”
