KING REIGNS ON THE SOUTH COAST

-

JOSH KING became Bournemouth’s second super sub of the week as his 99th-minute winner downed Brighton.

Winger Jordon Ibe had leapt off the bench to save Eddie Howe’s men against their south coast rivals on Friday evening but the Norwegian ace (right) was the hero in the Carabao Cup.

King, who was introduced in the 87th minute, poked in after a neat one-two with Marc Pugh to send the Cherries into the fourth round for just the second time in their history.

The striker was the Cherries’ top scorer last season after he bagged 23 goals but had failed to score in his first five appearances of the season.

The team had made 19 changes between their line-ups from Friday night’s encounter. One of them, Bournemouth keeper Artur Boruc almost gifted Chris Hughton’s men an opener.

He spilled a Jiri Skalak daisy cutter, before blocking Jamie Murphy’s rebound. Albion had the best early chances, but it was the hosts’ who could have taken the lead when Conor Goldson poked narrowly past his own post, before Ibe forced Tim Krul into a smart low save.

Junior Stanislas posted an early contender for miss of the season when he somehow managed to hit the post from a yard, after Krul had clawed away Benik Afobe’s header.

Not to be outdone, Murphy grazed against the outside of the post, after a woefully underhit back pass from Steve Cook.
