US hurricane remains may batter Britain

- BY STEPHEN WHITE

THE remains of Hurricanes Maria and Jose could combine to create storms to blitz Britain.

The weather systems that have left a trail of destruction in the Caribbean could merge and then pass over the Atlantic to create a foul weather front to lash the UK.

Maria is expected to swing north-eastwards next week and meet Jose which has been stationary in the ocean for days.

They may then head for Europe, bringing anything from mild rain to gales.

Leon Brown of The Weather Channel said: “I would emphasise this is one possibility and it will very much depend on the speed and track of Maria.”

Until then, high pressure looks set to keep the south and east UK mainly settled.
