Vic-tory for funnymen

-

Last night was a good night for an unlikely pair of BBC comedy refugees who have pitched tents on ITV’s lawn.

Vic Reeves, who has been known to have a pop at Peter Kay, gave Bolton’s finest reason to choke on his garlic bread.

Vic’s guest role in Coronation Street is already showing signs of outshining Kay’s 2004 stint as Eric the drayman.

Colin Callen walked into the Rovers and instantly looked like he belonged. Norris may have batted away Colin’s offer to buy The Kabin, but I hope he doesn’t let it lie.

ITV viewers might take a little longer to get used to Vic’s old Shooting Stars whipping boy Jack Dee. His sitcom Bad Move is worth sticking with, though.

Jack lays a pretty convincing claim to Victor Meldrew’s grumpy throne as city dweller Steve, who ups sticks and moves to the sticks with his wife Nicky.

Nicky is played by Kerry Godliman, who was the best thing in Ricky Gervais’s Derek and is well on the way to repeating that trick here.

ITV has had little sitcom success lately, so it will be interesting to see how this works out. With jokes about Nazis and suicide at 8pm, you can’t say Bad Move isn’t giving it a good go.
